The county is not limited to only these actions but may take the following actions to collect the amount owed:
- Place an intercept on state refunds until the debt is paid in full.
- Add an administrative fee to the past due accounts.
- Place account with an outside collection agency.
Community Services Finance also collects on state benefit overpayments and processes medical assistance recoveries. The following are some of the main attributes of these debts.
- The County Service Fee Determination and Hardship Request application do not apply to these debts.
- Credit card payments are not accepted on these debts but the client may be able to utilize funds in their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card to make a payment.
- Administrative fees are not placed on these accounts nor are they placed with an outside collection agency.
- In some cases and under certain circumstances, a client may be able to compromise their debt within 90 days which is a process that forgives part of the debt in exchange for a prompt payment of the reduced amount due.
