Disposal Options

 
There are two options: 

 

1) Haul Your Own

Olmsted County Recycling Center Plus offers a "one-stop" service to individuals who want to transport their own garbage and recyclables.  

The facility is located at 305 Silver Creek Road NE-Rochester
Open 8 a.m. -5 p.m. Monday through Saturday (except for legal holidays)

Recyclable items accepted free of charge at the Recycling Center Plus are:

  • Aluminum cans (buy-back)
  • Clear glass bottles and jars (no window glass, dishware or ceramics)
  • Green, brown and other colored glass bottles and jars
  • Corrugated cardboard (clean only)
  • Boxboard (i.e. cereal, cake and cracker boxes)
  • Office paper
  • Newspaper,
  • Magazines
  • Telephone books
  • Plastic bottles #1 and #2 (with a neck)
  • Tin food cans, EMPTY aerosol and paint cans
  • Clean scrap iron, aluminum, copper, brass and stainless steel

The Recycling Center Plus also accepts waste (for a fee) from those who wish to haul their own garbage. Waste brought to the Recycling Center Plus is later transferred to Olmsted County waste disposal facilities.

Items accepted for a fee at the Recycling Center Plus are things like:

  • Garbage
  • Appliances (recycled)
  • Bikes
  • Carpeting
  • Computer systems (recycled)
  • Construction materials
  • Drywall
  • Furniture
  • Grills
  • Lawn mowers (empty of fluids)
  • Mattresses
  • TVs (recycled)
  • Tires (recycled)

2) Hire a Hauler

 

Garbage haulers must be licensed to operate in Olmsted County.  The following is an alphabetical list of those that are licensed to haul garbage in Olmsted County.

 If you currently hire a hauler to pick-up and haul wastes from your property within the boundaries of Olmsted County and they are not on the above list, please call 507-328-7070 immediately.

Garbage haulers in Olmsted County offer collection services with volume-based fees (meaning the more you throw away, the more you pay). You can reduce your waste and save resources by recycling and reducing the amount you throw away. All haulers are required to offer recycling collection services to their customers.

All garbage haulers are also required to collect an Environmental Service Charge from their customers to help fund Olmsted County environmental education and waste abatement activities.
