Surplus Disposition
Olmsted County's Purchasing Department is responsible for the disposition of all surplus.
Furniture: An inventory of the surplus furniture is maintained by the Purchasing department for use by County Departments. The County may also periodically donate excess items to area cities and townships; as well as contracting with the Salvation Army to sell some of the excess surplus furniture for a set commission rate.
Computers: Olmsted County utilizes two contracts for the disposition of obsolete computers: salvageable: Olmsted United Way; and non-salvageable: Asset Recovery.
Vehicles: Olmsted County is utilizing the internet auction site listed below for vehicle disposition.
Equipment: Large equipment is either processed as a value when new equipment is purchased or becomes a bid opportunity.
Please note: We place many surplus items for sale on the website: www.publicsurplus.com which is a public agency auction site. Although anyone can purchase from this auction site, only public entities have the capability of placing items for sale on the site. It is also the responsibility of public employees to adhere to the state statute which maintains that they can only purchase one vehicle per auction.
