Deputy Sheriff General Information:
Examinations for the position of Deputy Sheriff are given every 12 months by the Olmsted County Sheriff's Civil Service Commission. Successful completion of the examination will allow applicants to remain on the eligible roster for two years.
Deputy Sheriff's with the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office perform law enforcement work in a full service agency including , patrol, civil/warrants service, investigations, court security and crime prevention functions.
Benefits of health, life, dental insurance, sick leave, vacation, holidays, retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, shift differential pay are available. Olmsted County does not have a residency requirement, but does require that a Deputy Sheriff live within fifty (50) miles of the Law Enforcement Center.
Minimum requirements for applying and testing - Deputy Sheriff:
- To be eligible to apply, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Possess an "active" license in the State of Minnesota, meaning the applicant has met POST Board approved requirements for obtaining and maintaining a valid license; OR
- Possess an "inactive" license in the State of Minnesota meaning that the applicant has previously held an "active" license and is eligible to reactivate it in this State; OR
- Have successfully completed the POST Board approved Professional Peace Officer education and passed the "Peace Officer Licensing Examination" OR
- Have completed basic police training or certification requirements in another state with which Minnesota has reciprocity, meaning that an out-of-state applicant has been found to be eligible to take the reciprocity licensing examination in Minnesota.

- U.S. Citizen
- Possess or eligible to obtain a valid Minnesota Driver's License.
- Shall not have been convicted of a felony in this state or any other state or in any federal jurisdiction, or an offense in any other state or federal jurisdiction, which would have been a felony if committed in the State of Minnesota.
- Must be free from any physical condition which might adversely affect the individuals duties as a Peace Officer.
- Must be free from any emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect the individuals performance of the duties of a Peace Officer.

Detention Deputy General Information:
The purpose of this application process is to create an eligibility roster for entrance into the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office. This Detention Deputy roster is valid for two years with exact dates established by the Sheriff's Civil Service Commission. As vacancies in the detention center arise, individuals will be hired from the list.
A Detention Deputy is responsible for the safe keeping of inmates, to include booking inmates, supervising work details, assistance in group rehabilitation programs, food, lodging, and record keeping.

Olmsted County does not have a residency requirement, but does require that a Detention Deputy live within fifty (50) miles of the Law Enforcement Center.

- To be eligible to apply, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent and reputation as a responsible, reliable citizen. Physical agility and good coordination. Social and general intelligence. Some training or experience in counseling, social sciences, corrections or law enforcement
