Have you tested your well water lately? Well water can contain chemical pollutants and disease causing bacteria in concentrations that could potentially affect the health of you and your loved ones.
When should you test your well water? Environmental health professionals recommend testing private drinking water wells at least once every two years to ensure that they continue to provide a safe, clean drinking water supply. You should also have your well water tested if there is a change in your water’s color or taste, if you are pregnant, or before giving water to an infant.
Olmsted County offers well water testing through its Southeastern Minnesota Water Analysis Laboratory. Testing is done for:
- Disease causing bacteria -- Coliform Bacteria
- Common chemical pollutants – Nitrate, Fluoride, Chloride & Sulfate
