Rochester-Olmsted Bicycle Master Plan 2012

The Vision of the Rochester-Olmsted Bicycle Master Plan is to create an environment that fosters bicycle travel as a healthy, environmentally sustainable transportation alternative that will reduce vehicular travel and improve the character of the community through projects, programs and policies that work together to provide safe and efficient opportunities for bicyclists to access public transportation, schools, workplaces, shopping areas, services, recreation and residences.

The Rochester-Olmsted Planning Department and the Olmsted County Public Health Department are nearing completion of the Rochester-Olmsted Bicycle Master Plan 2012, a project devoted to the creation of an environment that fosters bicycle travel as a healthy, environmentally sustainable transportation mode.

Community feedback is critical to the successful development of the Bicycle Master Plan. Two Public Input Meetings were held during the plan preparation: the First Public Input Meeting was held on May 18, 2011 and the Second Public Input Meeting was held on November 17, 2011 at the Rochester Public Library Auditorium. A Community Organizations and Groups Forum was conducted on January 11, 2012 to broaden outreach on the plan. At the Public Input Meetings and Public Forum staff was available to answer question and accept comments on various elements of the plan.

Staff has incorporated the valuable public feedback obtained at the two Public Meetings and a Community Organizations and Group Forum in the development of the plan. The final draft plan is now in the final review stage, with reviews by the local road authorities, the Bicycle –Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Public Health Advisory Board in process. It is anticipated that the final plan will be considered for adoption by the Rochester-Olmsted Council of Governments in June of 2012. The Final Plan document, maps, and other visuals are now available for public viewing.
