North Hwy 63 Access Management Study

The North Highway 63 Access Management Study is being done to support planning and development of the 55th St North extension from West River Rd to Highway 63, and the future upgrading of TH 63 to a four lane expressway through the 48th St NE intersection. The goal of the project is to develop a coordinated plan for managing access along the TH 63 corridor between 37th St NE and 48th St NE that will be consistent with the proposed expressway design of Highway 63 and yet provide reasonably suitable and convenient access for properties in the area. The goal of the study is to develop a plan that will consolidate existing highway accesses into a limited number of public street intersections providing direct access to Highway 63, and to identify the layout of a local frontage / backage road system that will provide direct street access to properties adjacent to the TH 63 corridor.

On January 21, 2010, a Public Informational Meeting was held to present the findings from the revised study report. (Both public presentations on the study can be linked to below.) After that meeting, a request was received to provide business owners in the area an opportunity to further review the plan and look at possible changes that may address concerns raised in the meeting. Project staff will collaborate with interested parties during the first quarter of 2010 to consider the feasibility of suggested changes. After this period of review, additional public meetings will be scheduled with notices of the time and location to be sent out.
