In a joint effort, Olmsted County Parks, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and the National Wild Turkey Federation have brought to southeast Minnesota and Chester Woods Park, a special youth turkey hunt. In 2006 these three agencies collaborated together with three main purposes in mind for youth hunters:
- The hunt is intended to be an educational experience that teaches new turkey hunters (both youth and their guardians) the skills and techniques to be life-long turkey hunters.
- The hunt will provide first time turkey hunters with a high quality experience to help recruit them as hunters.
-
The hunt will provide opportunities to access specific locations that may otherwise be closed to hunting, and therefore expand hunter opportunities in general.
