Basic and Advanced Computer Classes Being Facilitated

Dear Prospective Volunteer,

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center (ADC). We welcome you and need your involvement.  We are seeking facilitators to present existing or originally developed curriculum that will provide detainees with basic skills and education to promote their successful re-integration to the community.

A two year minimum commitment is requested, with regular participation required. Volunteers must have been off probation/parole for a minimum of 18 months. Those seeking to volunteer as a support group member, such as GA, NA, AA CMA, or OA must have been sober for at least two years.

Here are the steps required to become a volunteer:

#1. Contact the ADC Program Department by emailing Deputy Camey Ward, or by telephone at 507 328-6862 for an interview.

#2. If you are accepted as a volunteer, a referral form is completed, and returned to the Program Department. Once that information is received, a criminal background packet will be provided to you, along with further instructions.

#3. When you have completed the criminal background packet, email Deputy Lisa Pelowski or contact her at 507 328-6832 for a fingerprint appointment.  You must give her your criminal background packet at that time.

#4. Once a report has been received in our office from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on your fingerprints, and the criminal background packet, the Program Sergeant will need to approve you as a new volunteer.  If for some reason you are not approved as a volunteer, the Program Sergeant will contact you.

The entire application process may take several weeks. Listed below are programs offered currently, and those for which we are seeking support or curriculum. If you have a skill, talent or interest that you would like to share, or know someone who may be interested in volunteering, please pass the word. We look forward to hearing from you!
