What is Operation Identification?
Operation Identification is a national program designed to help reduce thefts and burglaries for its participants. This is done by marking personal property with a permanent identification number and by displaying the Operation Identification stickers.
Items marked with Operation Identification can be easily traced (locally and nationally) and is evidence of possession of stolen property.
Your inventory should include model and serial numbers. This information is important not only in a theft or burglary but also for a fire loss and will help you when working with your insurance agent. Some insurance companies may offer discounts for Operation Identification participation.
This is a free program. To obtain your law enforcement issued personal Operation Identification number stop into the Crime Prevention office. Electric engravers are available to borrow to mark property. Once the personal property has been, marked there are decals to be displayed on doors, windows, and larger items marked.
