Olmsted County Public Health Award

​The Annual Public Health Awards honor individuals, groups and agencies for their exceptional contributions to improving the health of individuals, families and communities in Olmsted County. Each play a critical role in making Olmsted County a healthier place to live, learn, work and play.

The Awards Program began in 1999 and since then, over 260 individuals and organizations have been nominated. 65 of these amazing nominees have received our highest appreciation through this Award. All our nominees and Award Recipients have made a difference in our community by devoting their time, energy, and talents to improving health and wellbeing. Award recipients are recognized at the County Board of Commissioners meeting each April in honor of Public Health Week.

Award Categories

Outstanding Partnership Award

Recognizes and acknowledges an individual, workgroup or agency that has made significant contributions through dedicated partnership with OCPHS and helped us meet our department goals. Public Health leadership nominates and selects this award recipient.

Public Health Champion Award
Recognizes, honors and thanks individuals whose service and activities have improved and strengthened the lives of our residents and visitors. Nominations are submitted through a variety of sources, including family, friends, neighbors and organizations. Nominations are accepted until March 1 each year.  A subcommittee of the Public Health Services Advisory Board reviews the nominations in March and selects the award recipient(s). Selection Criteria for

  • Leadership: demonstrates leadership abilities through work and service
  • Advocacy: involved in promoting health and healthy behaviors, and/or protecting the health and safety of our residents.
  • Health Improvement: demonstrates success in creating solutions to public health problems and has contributed to making improvements in the health status of the community
  • Collaboration: promotes collaboration and cooperation among individuals, groups, organizations and agencies.

 The Public Health Champion award is open to individuals and groups contributing to the health of Olmsted County residents. The nominee does not have to be a resident of Olmsted County but the contributions must benefit county residents and visitors. Religious, fraternal, business or professional groups that provide services only to their members are not eligible. Current members of the selection committee, the Public Health Services Advisory Board, Olmsted County Public Health Services staff, Olmsted County Board of Commissioners, or their families cannot be nominated. Past board members and former public health employees are eligible.
