Health education and health promotion are important areas in strong public health systems. Olmsted County Public Health Services (OCPHS) provides education and information to help our community maintain and enhance wellbeing by “making the healthy choice, the easy choice”. We help create healthy environments through policy development in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and substance abuse prevention. Through the use of large social marketing campaigns that influence individuals' behavior to improve their well-being, we use a variety of media venues such as public service announcements, articles and newsletters, social media, as well as TV, radio, billboards, and bus ads to reach diverse audiences. In addition, we offer consultation and provide health promotion presentations to schools, worksites, churches, and community and civic organizations on a variety of health behavior topics.
The Health Promotion unit is part of the Healthy Communities Division of Olmsted County Public Health Services. The Health Promotion unit collaborates with community partners to implement evidence-based prevention strategies related to alcohol, tobacco, and obesity prevention focusing on policy, systems and environmental changes that will have positive and sustainable health benefits for all.
