School based public health nursing services are provided in all public, private and charter schools in Olmsted County. Public health nurses work with schools and community partners to promote healthy behaviors and to ensure health equity for all students. Prevention and health promotion services are provided to meet individual school and student needs. This includes health related classroom education, individual health education, counseling, group facilitation, and community connection and referrals. School based public health nurses are involved in planning and supporting disease prevention activities in the schools including assistance with disease surveillance, school-based immunization clinics and participation in school-related and community health promotion events.
