Certified Food Manager requirements

The Minnesota Food Code requires a State-certified food manager in most food service establishments.

To become a Minnesota Certified Food Manager:

  1. Attend an approved food safety course.
  2. Pass the exam at the end of the course.  The exam must be one of the following recognized by the State:  ServSafe, Experior, National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, or Certifying Board of Dietary Managers.
  3. Apply to the State for a certificate.
        You will need to send:
        - An application with a check for the current fee,
        - Proof that you attended a class, and
        - Proof that you passed a recognized exam
           within the last three years.

See the Minnesota Department of Health website for an application or a schedule of food safety classes in the area.
