Mission

The Vital Aging Commission (VAC) advises the Olmsted County Board on issues affecting older adults and their families and advocates on behalf of the interests and needs of our aging population.

History

The Vital Aging Commission (VAC) of Olmsted County  was established June 2006 in response to recommendations made at a 2005 County-wide Senior Summit held in Rochester, MN.

Meetings

Meetings are on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM at:

Silver Creek Room (located on the first floor)
Rochester, MN

Organizational Aims:

  • Recognize and promote elders as essential community assets
  • Enhance the quality of life for seniors through health and wellness initiatives
  • Facilitate access to information and community resources for elders and their families

Activities/Accomplishments

Throughout Olmsted County, the VAC has:

  • Conducted Listen and Learn sessions on older adult issues

  • Studied transportation issues and options for older adults and made recommendations to appropriate governing bodies

  • Conducted surveys to recognize and highlight the value of volunteerism among older adults in the community

  • Obtained grants to improve signage and seating at the Government Center

  • Media outreach on older adult issues
