Campsites to open at Olmsted County parks on June 1

Campsite in Olmsted County
Campsites at Olmsted County’s Chester Woods and Oxbow parks are reopening to the public on Monday, June 1, 2020. Olmsted County Park Superintendent Karlin Ziegler says that to open campsites safely, new protocols will be put into place based on guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Individuals and families using campsites and bathrooms at Olmsted County campsites will want to be aware of the following changes to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

  • Bathrooms will be cleaned and sanitized at least twice a day.
  • Except for showering or brushing teeth, people must be wearing face coverings in the bathrooms.
  • Bathroom occupancy is limited to four people at a time (unless all are from the same household).
  • Bring cash, if possible. Park entrance fees and firewood will be provided on a self-serve basis with payment drop boxes.  Ensure you are following appropriate physical distancing guidelines. Set up campsites to maximize distance from adjacent campsites that host people from different households.
  • Olmsted County will continue to have campground hosts; however, they will have a limited role and will not interact with campers as much as in years past, other than to provide help as needed.
  • Reservations can still be made by reviewing availability online and then calling 507-328-7070 to reserve a site.

Olmsted County Parks programming

For the health and safety of all Olmsted County park visitors and employees, there will be no in-person programs and events offered at Olmsted County parks this summer. Instead, virtual programs are being offered on the Chester Woods Facebook page, Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo Facebook page, and the Olmsted County YouTube page. Follow and subscribe for updates including our newest program – Wildlife Wednesdays – featuring animals that call Zollman Zoo home.
