Connecting the Unconnected through promoting the health of our communities

Olmsted County is celebrating National County Government Month (NCGM) in April. We will share how we are "Connecting the Unconnected," demonstrating how counties deliver people-centered services and connect communities.

One example is our work to promote the health of our communities.

Olmsted County Public Health is making Olmsted County a healthier place to live, learn, work, play and age. We have several specific programs designed to help children, families and adults improve their current and future health and receives over 3,400 referrals from community organizations and agencies into these programs.

  • Our WIC clinic connects babies, children up to age 5, and pregnant or breastfeeding women, to nutrition education, healthy foods and community resources.
  • Our school-based nursing program provides classroom education, individual health education and consultation, and connects students of all ages to needed resources related to physical and mental health.
  • Our Public Health Nurses connect young families to information and skill development related to pregnancy, parenting, and child growth and development.
  • Our clinic staff connect all ages to needed immunizations, disease screenings, and work with our healthcare partners to detect, treat and reduce communicable diseases in and around Olmsted County.

Our staff also provide community resources and link people to needed services and care. This includes help finding medical, dental and vision providers, accessing appropriate car seats, and assuring they get the needed well child exams. Consultations are provided to businesses, citizens, organizations, and visitors who have specific questions or concerns related to healthy behaviors, work or environmental hazards or communicable diseases.

Educating people, linking them to appropriate resources and empowering them to make positive changes will lead to improved health overall. It's what we do!

Olmsted County is proud to be Connecting the Unconnected.
