The COVID-19 health emergency has resulted in a significant loss of income for many individuals, businesses, and property owners. Knowing that some Olmsted County taxpayers might have difficulty meeting the deadline for the first half payment of 2020 property taxes, in April 2020, Olmsted County commissioners voted to extend the date that late property tax payment penalties would begin to accrue from May 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020.

On July 7, 2020, the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners again voted to extend the late payment deadline to December 15, 2020 for those experiencing hardship due to COVID-19. This deadline extension applies to both the first half payment of 2020 property taxes and the second half payment. In other words, the deadline by which to pay your full property tax payment for 2020 has been extended to December 15.

Important points to note:

  • There will be no penalties assessed unless the full property tax payment for 2020 is not received by December 15.
  • This does not apply to property taxes paid by escrow.

Not all individuals and businesses in Olmsted County are experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19. Those that are still able to make their property tax payments on previously established payment due dates are encouraged to do so.
