In a joint effort, Olmsted County Parks, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and the National Wild Turkey Federation have brought to southeast Minnesota and Chester Woods Park, a special youth turkey hunt.  In 2006 these three agencies collaborated with three main purposes in mind for youth hunters:

  1. The hunt is intended to be an educational experience that teaches new turkey hunters (both youth and their guardians) the skills and techniques to be life-long turkey hunters.
  2. The hunt will provide first time turkey hunters with a high quality experience to help recruit them as hunters.
  3. The hunt will provide opportunities to access specific locations that may otherwise be closed to hunting, and therefore expand hunter opportunities in general.
